Description: 

Cornus canadensis is a low-growing, spreading evergreen perenial with leaves in a whorl. The flowers appear to have white petals, but these are actualy bracts surrounding acentral cluster of flowers. The fruits grow in a tight cluster of bright red berries. 

Cultural Narrative: 

Bunchberries were commonly consumed by coastal groups and northern Interior communities. Some Interior groups did not recognize these berries as edible. The berries are quite sweet.

Location Description: 

Bunchberries grow across elevations in moist forests, often found on humus or rotting wood.
